Prado proves you can eat very well in Lisbon without ceremony. It's recommended by the MICHELIN Guide and follows a farm-to-table philosophy: seasonal Portuguese produce bought from the people who grow it. It sits on a quiet lane by the Cathedral, right on the way between the Baixa and Alfama.
A kitchen that follows the seasons
Here the calendar is in charge. The menu changes with what arrives from the producers, so what you ate in spring is unlikely to reappear in autumn. Dishes are made for sharing and let the ingredient speak: vegetables in the spotlight, meat and fish handled with respect. It's modern cooking, but with its feet firmly on the ground.
The wines follow the same idea, with a strong focus on small producers and natural wines. If you don't know what to choose, ask the team: it's usually the most fun way to discover bottles you won't find in the supermarket.
The room and what to expect
The room is spacious and high-ceilinged, with lots of natural light and plants bringing it to life. The tone is relaxed and the service friendly, without formality. Come with time and the urge to try several things in the middle of the table. It's a €€ restaurant, which for this quality is almost a well-kept secret.
The project also includes a grocery and a wine bar in the same spirit, great for taking a snack or a bottle home, or for a more casual glass.
Between the Cathedral, the Baixa and Alfama
The location is among the best for sightseers. Lisbon Cathedral is literally around the corner, and from there tram 28 climbs towards Alfama and São Jorge Castle. A good idea is to have lunch at Prado and then wander up to the Santa Luzia viewpoint, digesting with a view of the river.
In the other direction, the slope takes you down to the Pombaline Baixa, Rua Augusta and Praça do Comércio in a few minutes. The Casa dos Bicos and the riverfront are close too, for a walk along the Tagus in the late afternoon.
