Full description
In the silence steeped in memories of Île de la Cité, where Paris first began, time seems to slow down. This guided tour takes you to the city’s original heart, among Roman remains, medieval power, and revolutionary drama, in a story woven from history and emotion. As you walk along the Seine and through the island’s ancient streets, you’ll relive the centuries in which Paris was built stone by stone: from the first Gallo-Roman settlements to the Middle Ages of kings and bishops, and on to the darkest and most solemn moments in its history. The exterior visit to Notre-Dame Cathedral is the centerpiece of the tour. The west façade becomes a veritable book carved in stone: statues, portals, and rose windows tell the story of the medieval world, its fears, its faith, and its vision of humanity. Through an insightful and engaging guided interpretation, you’ll discover symbols, hidden details, and the cathedral’s deep connection to Parisians’ lives, from the Middle Ages to the present day. An immersive, contemplative experience for those who want to understand Paris not only with their eyes, but also through memory and emotion. A journey through time, to the place where it all began.
