The Senhora do Monte viewpoint is the highest point in the Graça neighborhood and in the city of Lisbon, offering one of the capital’s widest and most famous panoramic views. A 210-degree vista encompassing São Jorge Castle, downtown Lisbon, the Carmo Convent ruins, the Tagus estuary (Mar da Palha), the 25 de Abril Bridge, Cristo Rei, and even Monsanto Park. A small historic chapel originally founded in 1147. Inside, there is a legend about Saint Gens’s stone chair, associated with folk traditions surrounding pregnancy and childbirth. Lisbon Cathedral, or the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, is located in the Portuguese city of Lisbon. It is the seat of the Patriarchate of Lisbon and the Parish of the Cathedral. Construction began in the second half of the 12th century, after King Afonso Henriques conquered the city from the Moors, and today it features a blend of architectural styles. It has been classified as a National Monument since 1910. This church stands on the site where Saint Anthony was born, before he set off into the world as a preacher and eventually died in Padua. The present church was built in 1767, on the site of a chapel dating back to the 15th century. Notable features include the statue of the patron saint, which survived the earthquake; the crypt at his birthplace; and a painting of Saint Anthony with the most authentic likeness that has been preserved. It was visited by Pope Saint John Paul II in 1982.
