Cod, rabelo boats, Port wine, and winding lanes leading down to the river: discover Ribeira through the eyes of a local. Book for €1.50 and decide at the end what the tour was worth.
Fun fact: People from Porto are called “tripeiros”: in 1415, they gave all their meat to the ships of Henry the Navigator and were left eating tripe.

Full description
Porto was born facing the river, and this tour takes you from the top of the Cathedral down to the banks of the Douro, along the city’s oldest streets. Your local guide will tell you how a city ruled by bishops became a commercial powerhouse, what the Church of Grilos hides behind its 1730 azulejo tiles, and why cod is such a big part of Porto’s story: treaties with England, Portuguese princesses in Denmark, and the famous Gomes de Sá recipe. You’ll cross Miragaia, the neighborhood of sailors and shipyards from which ships set sail for India and Brazil, look out over the Douro to learn about the world’s oldest designated wine region, and arrive at Infante Square, home to the Stock Exchange Palace and São Francisco Church. You’ll also find out why Porto’s residents are called “tripeiros.” We’ll finish beside the D. Luís I Bridge, with stories of floods, rescues, and the legendary Duke of Ribeira. How does it work? The €1.50 you pay when booking is just a booking fee: it reserves your place in the group, but it doesn’t go to the guide. The tour itself is tip-based: at the end, you give your guide what you think they’ve earned. Most people leave €15–20 per person, but here the price is set by your smile, not a price list.
