Mafra National Palace - It consists of a palace and a convent in the Baroque style, influenced by Roman and Germanic architecture, and is associated with a garden and the Mafra National Hunting Grounds. It comprises around 1,200 rooms, more than 4,700 doors and windows, 156 staircases, and 29 courtyards and halls. The Royal Building of Mafra comprises the palace, which includes the basilica (with a set of 6 organs and 2 carillons) and the library, a convent and military educational establishments, the Cerco Garden, and the hunting grounds. Construction began in 1717 on the initiative of King João V. Pena Palace, Sintra - Pena Palace, or Pena Castle, is one of the world's finest examples of 19th-century architectural Romanticism and was the first palace of its style in Portugal. In the 19th century, the landscape of the Sintra Mountains and the ruins of the old convent enchanted King Consort Ferdinand II of Portugal. During the reign of Carlos I of Portugal, the royal family often stayed at the palace, which became Queen Amélia's favorite residence. She oversaw the decoration of the private apartments. A luncheon was held here for the entourage of Edward VII of the United Kingdom during his official visit to the country in 1903.
