Eleven sits at the top of Parque Eduardo VII, in the Amália Rodrigues Garden, and has one of Lisbon's most beautiful views to go with dinner. Chef Joachim Koerper leads the kitchen. It's recommended by the MICHELIN Guide and sits at the €€€€ level, made for occasions that call for something more.
The cooking and the experience
The cooking is creative, with classic technique and excellent produce, and Mediterranean and Portuguese influences. Dishes are elegant and refined, to savour slowly. The format leans towards tasting, with a sequence of moments that builds the meal. Menus follow the seasons, so check what's available when you book.
The wine list deserves attention, and the team knows how to guide anyone wanting to explore. If you have dietary restrictions, give notice so the kitchen can prepare.
The room and the view
The big trump card, besides the plate, is the window. From the top of the park you see Avenida da Liberdade running down to the Baixa and, in the distance, the Tagus. At sunset, the view does half the work. The room is bright, elegant and serene, with formal but friendly service. It's one of those places where conversation stops now and then just to look outside.
Dress smartly, as the setting calls for it. And keep the evening free: this is a dinner to enjoy without watching the clock.
Parque Eduardo VII and around
Before dinner, stroll through Parque Eduardo VII and visit the Estufa Fria, a tropical garden hidden inside the park. The view over the city from the top is one of Lisbon's best known. Going down, Praça Marquês de Pombal opens onto Avenida da Liberdade, with shops and terraces.
Art lovers have the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation a short distance away, with a museum and gardens well worth an afternoon. El Corte Inglés and Amoreiras are also close, for anyone with shopping still on the list. For the way back, Marquês de Pombal metro station is a pleasant walk down through the park.
