CURA is the MICHELIN-starred restaurant of the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon. It's right next to Parque Eduardo VII. It's modern cooking taken seriously, for anyone wanting to mark an occasion in Lisbon and leave talking about dinner. It's not a place for a quick meal: come with time and an appetite.
The cooking: modern, with a star
The MICHELIN star says a lot: careful technique, hand-picked produce and dishes thought through to the last detail. The style is contemporary, the kind that takes recognisable ingredients and flavours somewhere new. Menus change often, so there's no point coming for a particular dish. Better to trust the kitchen and go with it. Some people save places like this for the last dinner of their trip, and it makes sense.
The room and what to expect
It's inside the Ritz, one of the city's most emblematic hotels and an icon of mid-20th-century Lisbon. Expect luxury-hotel service: attentive, discreet and unhurried. At a restaurant of this level the meal tends to be long, so keep the whole evening free, not just an hour between appointments. The menu format and any dress rules may change, so check the website before you go. A smart look without overdoing it never fails.
Marquês de Pombal: fitting it into your day
The location helps a lot. Parque Eduardo VII is right next door. Walk to the top to see the city sloping down to the Tagus, one of Lisbon's best views, especially in the late afternoon. In the park itself is the Estufa Fria, a peaceful stroll before dinner.
On the other side of the Marquês roundabout begins Avenida da Liberdade, with its shops and Portuguese pavements, leading on foot to Restauradores and the Baixa. Museum lovers have the Gulbenkian within reasonable walking distance. A simple plan: an afternoon in the park or on the Avenida, sunset at the top of Eduardo VII and dinner afterwards.
